Brothers Backlot
Back in 1966 due to 20th Century Fox selling off their backlot because of money troubles, Batman needed some place to film the exteriors of Gotham City. The studio that they were renting at Culver City - Desilu Productions had no " industrial " looking sets on their backlot. Gotham City was supposed to resemble New York so they got some cash together and bought time at the Warner Brothers Backlot to film many scenes used in Batman.
The New York Street Set was used in the Batman series to give the feeling of a big city. This is one of the oldest sets on the backlot dating back to the 1930's when they filmed many of the gangster films on this location.
Today it is still used a great deal. ER is filmed at the same spot Baman was filmed 40+ years ago. The same street has been in hundreds of movies even the Sci Fi movie Blade Runner used the street when filming.
The most noticeable is the scene where Batman and Robin screech to a halt in from of City Hall and run up the steps. This was filmed on the Warner Brothers New York Street backlot using stuntmen Hubie Kerns and Victor Paul. This stock footage was used over and over in many episodes of Batman.
