TO THE BAT POLES !!!

The Shakespeare bust used to slide open the bookcase and expose the batpoles had an electric switch that couldn't open the bookcase but it did turn on a light behind the set to signal the crew to slide it open. If they were too slow, Bruce Wane and Dick Grayson would run into a wall of books.

The poles had a 10 foot drop , far enough to be off camera. The landing was an old mattress!

The second part of the scene to the bat cave was filmed in the batcave set. Our heroes slid down two 65 foot poles. This scene was filmed once and became the stock footage used in all the shows.

Historic Wayne Manor

Wayne Manor was the home of Bruce Wayne , Dick Grayson, Aunt Harriet and Alfred the butler. In the basement was the famous Batcave. The interior shots were all done on a very detailed set at the studio. The exterior shots were really filmed at 380 South San Rafel Ave, Pasedena California. The home is very beautiful from the outside and in 1991 it was changed into a convent in the movie Dead Again.

Don't rush out and pack a lunch and hop in the Batmobile to go see this famous home, you cant see it from the street. The first picture is from the opening scene from the 1966 movie Batman and the second is from the 1991 movie Dead Again.
