Aunt Harriet
riet was played by a veteran actress Madge Blake. She was born in 1900 in Kinsley Kansas and moved to the Hollywood area at the age of 12. She started her acting career late in life with a part in the 1949 movie Adam's Rib a court room comedy starring Spencer Tracy. She went on from there to a large number of smaller roles in movies, the photo above is from the opening scene in the 1952 movie, Singing in the Rain where she plays the role of the awards announcer.

She had parts in many T.V. programs before the Batman series such as, Don't Eat The Daises, I Love Lucy, and The Real McCoys to name a few. She was a warm and sweet woman however she had problems with pressure and many times was the cause of retakes during scenes. Her character was written into the show to give the caped crusaders a reason to not sit around Wayne Manor in their costumes and also to give the show a female to contradict a rumor that a gay relationship existed between Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson.

As Well as part of the cast on The Real McCoys before Batman !

Madge was a regular on the show during the first two seasons but she became ill at the beginning of the third season. She only made two appearances that year. Batman was the last appearance she made on screen and she passed away from a heart attack February 19, 1969 in Pasadena, California.
