Liberace


The good Chandell and his evil brother Harry were out to Kill Bruce Wayne and
marry Aunt Harriet so he could take all the money from the Bruce Wayne Estate.
In The series, Both characters were played by the master pianist Liberace.
Liberace was a world famous pianist that was cast on the show due to his popularity.
Most remembered for his extravagant costumes
and trademark candelabra placed on the lids of his multiple pianos, His characters
name " Chandell " was a take off of his candelabra. Liberace was loved
by his audiences for his music talent and
unique showmanship. Liberace on Batman : " Like some
of the children, I loved the villains because they were sort of anti- heroes roles
and you always wanted to see what they could do to put Batman in a predicament
and then, of course, it was fun to see how they got out of it. " He
was well known on TV at the time, he hosted his own show, "The Liberace Show,
for two years. He also was noted in Ripley's Believe It or Not for being "world's
fastest pianist," and Guinness for being best-paid ($2m for 26 weeks, 1954).

Liberace was so
kind, at lunch periods, he'd sit at the piano and say, ' What do you want me to
play ' He'd play anything for them. He was very congenial, very nice and a real



professional."
He was an awesome pianist but he was a weak villain,
Adam west in his book, " Back to the Batcave" stated it was hard to
take him seriously as a villain but he was a great person.
His performing life and personal life was a issue he tried to keep separate as
he was a homosexual. He had numerous lawsuits during his career suing people who
would accuse him. After 15 years of these lawsuits, it was impossible for him
to come out of the closet but never the less,
he contracted Aids and died, February 4, 1987.
One interesting fact, these episodes featuring Liberace were the highest rated
of all the Batman shows.
